We are thrilled to share that our short film, ‘Raging to Nature’ took home a Gold award at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa on Friday, 6 June 2025.
Over 450 films were submitted from around the world, and the red carpet event, which took place at Hotel Sky in Sandton, Johannesburg, was attended by over 200 people from the film, tourism, and conservation industries.
Produced by our long-time marketing and film partners, Love Africa Marketing, our short film showcases our 204 metre abseil that descends the length of Southern Africa’s longest single-drop waterfall – the Maletsunyane Falls.
Holding a Guinness World Record, this abseil is the world’s longest commercially-operated single-drop abseil. The film delves into local legends of the Maletsunyane River, the heart-pounding adventure of the descent, and the experience connecting with the elements of nature.
‘Raging to Nature’ aims to highlight the ‘raging river in full flood, the ‘raging adrenaline rush’ of the activity, and the ‘raging to nature’ through connecting with nature, which is felt when descending the world’s longest abseil alongside Southern Africa’s highest single-drop waterfall.
“We are truly grateful for winning Gold at the ITFFA awards ceremony. Our world record abseil and the Maletsunyane Falls has been a huge part of our journey as a lodge, and this film has given it the recognition it deserves. Our long standing partners, Love Africa Marketing have once again proven their worth – not only are they passionate and professional, they have a natural talent to tell a story, always having our best interest at heart!” – Armelle Halse, Semonkong Lodge owner.
The winners were selected by a panel of 34 jury members, equally representing the film and digital creation industries and the tourism sector. The films were judged on seven key criteria: impact, subject matter, storytelling, creativity, style, sound, and goal effectiveness with scores out of 10 awarded to each entry.
